The Story

About Her

Born in Martinique, Annabel Guérédrat bridges academic knowledge and embodied practice. Trained in literature, history, dance, and somatic practices, she crafts a language of movement rooted in memory, resistance, and Caribbean territories. Her works are part of major contemporary performance scenes in France, the Caribbean, and internationally. Conceived for demanding spaces — museums, festivals, national stages, alternative venues, or open-air sites — her performances summon the body, memory, spirituality, radical ecofeminism, and social commitment.

The Hybridization of Knowledge

bridging Western ways of knowing and corporeal practices rooted in the Global South

Annabel charts a singular path by weaving together different worlds. On one hand, a rigorous academic background in modern literature and contemporary African history at the Sorbonne; on the other, deep immersion in diverse corporeal and spiritual practices: butoh, ladja, Body-Mind Centering®, pilates, yoga, kyudo, Afro-Brazilian and contemporary dance.
This interweaving of disciplines allows her to develop a unique artistic language—one that merges introspection, embodied memory, and choreographed ritual gestures.

The body

as a territory of rituals

Annabel uses performance as a sacred and embodied act. Her body becomes an offering — a site of transformation, healing, and resistance. Her actions draw on Afro-Caribbean spiritual traditions (orishas, baths, invocations), weaving the intimate and the political.

Feminine Figures

and Caribbean Ecofeminism

Inspired by modern witches (Valeska Gert, Nina Hagen, Princess Nokia…), she creates her own performative entities: the bruja, Oxun, Mami Sargassa… Mythical, critical, and militant figures that reinvent the role of the Black woman in Caribbean history.

Actor

of a Territory and a Scene

Founder of the company Artincidence and of FIAP Martinique, Annabel is deeply rooted in a collective and territorial dynamic. She performs in connection with the mangrove, sargassum, ravines… but also with marginalized communities (in prisons, prostitution networks, educational and medical institutions…).
